I’ve talked before about the importance of marketing your business. Today, I want to go a little more in-depth on that topic.
So what goes into a great marketing plan? Let’s look at some of the big components of that:
- Your vision statement: This helps get your whole team excited about the goals you’re trying to achieve. At my company we call it our “painted vision:” it’s a clearly-drawn map of exactly where we’re going and how we’re going to get there. This vision statement clarifies business objectives and gets everyone on the same page working toward them.
- Your budget: The Internet has opened up a lot of free marketing opportunities – social media, blogging, etc. – but you’ve got to be prepared to dedicate some of your revenue to marketing. A good rule of thumb is 10 percent of your budget spent on marketing if you want to grow your business to the next level.
- Your target audience: There’s no sense marketing your business to people you don’t want as customers. Figure out who your target audience is: are you targeting homeowners in a specific location? Would you prefer to reach out to people in a certain income bracket? Start researching the demographics you want to target and make a plan for the best ways to reach those people.
- Your strategies: This requires you to decide how you want to promote your services to your target audience. Whether it’s through special pricing or package deals, or showing them how you can fill a need that your competitors can’t, the goal is to prove to your target customers that they need your services. You can make use of print, radio, and TV ads, social media and blogging, community events – really, the possibilities are endless.
