Set Goals for your Business

Success. You dream of it, strive for it, envision it. But what does success mean for your business? Turning that vision into a reality requires laying out the path to success. If you want to see your business skyrocket, you have to set goals. A results driven leader needs to know what results they want to see.

If asked what your goals are for your business, do you reply with just, “success”? Do you say you want to “get more business”? Those no-brainer answers won’t drive total market domination.  As the owner of your HVAC, plumbing, or electrical business, it is time to step up to the plate and break down the roadmap to success.

The guidelines in this article are a great start to goal setting. Take a look at three ways to ensure your new goals are driving success and obtaining wins for your business.

Write them down.

Taking these goals seriously means pulling them out of the clutter in your mind and putting them on paper. Taking the time to focus on writing your goals is step one to achieving them. Your employees drive your business, so don’t just write goals down for yourself. Share them. Be sure your employees are on the same page, and that your vision is clear. A goal board can unite visions and be a daily reminder to take action.

Be realistic.

If you are constantly setting unattainable goals for your business and employees, you will hinder motivation. When you set measurable goals, pick a realistic number that requires hard work and dedication. Sure, you can dream big. But keep your footing. Do industry research, analyze your past performance to find a practical number, then go for it.

Track success.

You finally sat down to write out your realistic goals for the year. Now what? A year is a long time to stay focused, and having all that time can leave you procrastinating. Break those goals down. Have a schedule, and give your business monthly goals. Reaching a goal won’t be nearly as possible without tracking your progress along the way. As you’re tracking, don’t forget to reward success.
