Service Business Owners: Work ON Your Business, Not IN Your Business

Whether you own a plumbing, electrical, or HVAC contracting business, I have no doubt that you’re very good at what you do. I’m guessing you’ve been doing it for a long time, and started your own business because you were frustrated with previous employers, or because you identified a need in a particular market, or because you wanted to achieve the kind of personal and financial freedom you couldn’t get working for someone else.

But has that happened? Or are you still spending 70 or 80 hours a week in the truck, out on service calls? Have you decided that no one can do your job better than you, so you’ve decided to just do it yourself?

If your answer to that question is “yes,” then I’m here to tell you that is NOT the way to run your business. It is not the way to make more money or achieve market domination. It’s not the way to be an effective business owner and team leader.

For your business to grow and actually give you that freedom you’re looking for – freedom to spend time with your family, freedom to travel, or play golf, or anything else you enjoy – you have to learn to work on the business, not in it.

That means you have to get out of the truck. It means you have to get away from the day-to-day tasks, and focus on making the right decisions about advertising, hiring, and management that will actually make your business bigger and better.

Small business owners are notorious for not hiring the right people to take on certain tasks, or not paying to have a task completed in a quality way. With the reasoning that they can do it better, they’ll just do it themselves, owners are setting themselves up for failure.

If you want to be successful, you’ve got to learn to delegate. That means building a team you trust to get the job done and maintain your company’s reputation. If you don’t feel like the employees you have right now can do that – then train them better, or get new ones. You’re the owner. You have to make decisions that are best for your business.

I can show you how to make the right decisions that will actually help grow your business. That’s just one of the things we’ll cover in my next $23 Million Dollar Contracting Business Blueprint – I promise you don’t want to miss this incredible event!
