Stacks of resumes, hours of interviews, and you still come up empty-handed at the end of the day?
If so, it’s time to change things up. Without quality employees, I would not have been able to expand my business, Gold Medal Service, into the $23 million service business that it is today. The employees you hire plays a key role in building a successful business, and sometimes you need to get creative to turn your hiring process into an effective tool for achieving market domination.
Take creative powerhouse, Google, for example. Back in 2004, an anonymous billboard was posted that read “{first 10-digit prime found in consecutive digits of e}.com.” For the select few that knew the answer to be “7427466391.com,” this meant navigating another equation on the mystery web page and then landing an interview with Google, that was looking for the world’s best engineers. The billboard served as a filter for an otherwise enormous pool of applicants, if traditional methods would have been used.
Southwest Airlines is another example of a business changing up its hiring process, but with much simpler methods. As a whole, the airline industry has lost more money than it makes. Southwest is the exception to this rule with over 40 years of consistently profitable operations. The airline uses offbeat questions during interviews to find employees who fit its unique culture. One of their most used fill-in-the-blank statements is: “One time I used humor to help me was…”
Now, I’m not saying these methods will work for your business, but take them as inspiration to freshen up your hiring process. Posting a position on a job board and waiting for the best candidate to come your way may not work. Use new methods such as mobile recruitment, or host a hiring event to attract top talent and screen potential hires for desired skillsets.
Stop putting hiring on the back burner. If you want to get the right people that are going to be assets for your HVAC, electrical, or plumbing business, you need to invest time and money into the hiring process. If traditional hiring practices aren’t yielding maximized results, contact CEO Warrior today to find out how you can change up your business and help you find the best talent.
