Let me tell you a little bit about my story.
I started my company 20 years ago because I was tired of being in a job that was just a job, not a career. I was tired of feeling like there was nowhere for me to go, and that I would never have a reliable boss or the kind of financial and personal freedom I wanted. So my partner and I started a new company, one we wanted to be different – where everyone who came to work for us could feel like they belonged, and like they could grow.
Owning your own electrical, HVAC, or plumbing business is great, but if you’re not careful, it can take over your life. That’s exactly what happened in the first 10 years of our business. We were both still in the truck all the time, both still struggling to make ends meet and to build a team we could really trust to run the business so we could spend time with our families.
I was ready to walk away – but I decided to give it one more chance. This time, though, I had to find a way to take ownership not only of my business, but my life. That meant learning how to get out of the truck and focus on growing the business. It meant figuring out how to make the best use of my marketing and advertising budget. It meant finding the right vendors to help me get the job done. It meant building the right team so that the business could run whether I was there or not.
