Mike Agugliaro here. Yes, I’m bringing you a serious message. Yes I was just holding my head throbbing. Why? Because I was just thinking of a subject. You know what I was thinking of? I think somebody wrote about it, death by meetings. All the time, I get people in my four day fast track academy. We start talking. They’re like, “Oh, I have a manager meeting and a marketing meeting and service tech meeting and a service manager meeting.”
I’m like, “Oh, my God. No wonder you’re not getting shit done and getting more profit. You know why? You’re dying. Your meetings have baby meetings which then produce more meetings. It’s like cockroaches. How do you ever get it done?”
Look, here’s the deal. Maybe you need a financial meeting once a month. That probably has to happen. It doesn’t have to happen in person. I’m pretty sure everybody involved with GE or Apple, they’re not all flying to one place in a room. Let’s leverage technology the way we need it. Two, we don’t need a big belated meeting, right? Let’s look at the indicators. We’re here to just do a couple of things. What do we need to start doing? What do we need to stop doing? What do we need to keep doing? Don’t over complicate the damn thing. How long’s it take? Here’s our agenda. What do we need to stop doing, start doing, and keep doing? That’s it.
Do me a favor. Save your life and get out of this routine of meetings and meetings and meetings and meetings because you’re not taking action when you’re doing meetings. Second thing is to leave a meeting with no action items with deadlines, exactly what you’re going to do, and leverage and reward, bloom, you’re already dead. [inaudible 00:01:41] will slice your throat. The thing about meetings is it’s bad enough you’re doing too many. The second thing is most of you don’t even know how to do it. You’re like, “Well, let me teach you how to do it. Have a five minute or ten minute huddle. Don’t sit, stand.”
I’m like, “Okay, yeah.” You missed half of the other stuff you had to do about a meeting to make it. When does the meeting start? The meeting already started before you got there. When do you send out the agenda? Before you already got there. How do you set the tone of the meeting? Before you even got there. You see, the problem is most of the people that are out there trying to teach you how to do meetings properly, they never had proper meetings themselves, or their shit is so old it don’t even work today. What’s the attention span today of a human compared to 10 years ago. Then years ago it was like, “Let’s have a meeting. Sit down, eat a doughnut. Oh, I’m focused on it.”
Today, it’s like I sit down, 30 seconds. Let me check my watch. How many steps? Let me check my iPhone. What did they say? What’s the news? Oh, phone call? Yeah. Short attention span. You know what you have to do with short attention span? Your meetings need to be the most effective and only when you need to have them. That’s what you need to do. You can feel my passion on this one, right, because I’m disgusted in all the waste of time. Stop damn wasting time, okay? I’m Mike Agugliaro. I’m wishing you a better great day today and every day. I just want you to amass whole tons of freedom and market domination and no damn waste of time.
